Seed Starting Calculator — How Many Seeds to Sow
Calculate seed quantities with germination rates and succession sowing.
Check seed packet; typically 70-90%
How We Calculate This
Formula: Seeds to sow = Plants wanted / (Germination rate / 100).
For example, if you want 50 plants and germination is 80%, you need 50 / 0.8 = 63 seeds.
Trays are calculated at 24 cells each (a common UK module tray size).
